EL GRUPO
Spin Doctors comenzaron su carrera en la ciudad de Nueva York a finales de los 80 bajo el nombre de Trucking Company. La formación original contaba con el vocalista Chris Barron, el guitarrista Eric Schenkman y la armónica de John Popper, quien decidió abandonar la banda para centrarse en Blues Traveler. Entonces Barron y Schenkman llamaron al batería Aaron Comess y al bajista Mark White, adoptando definitivamente el nombre de Spin Doctors en 1989.
If the River Was Whiskey (2013)
En 1991
firmaron con Epic/Sony y publicaron
su primer EP “Up for Grabs ... Live”, un directo grabado en el Wetlands Preserve de Manhattan. Aquel
mismo año lanzaron su álbum debut “Pocket Full of Kryptonite”. Un
listado de diez pistas que en un primer momento recibió poca atención, pero a
base de conciertos y más conciertos, canciones como "Little Miss Can´t Be Wrong”
y "Two Princes" pegaron fuerte en los medios, se ganaron al
público y este primer trabajo acabó alcanzando el millón de unidades vendidas
en enero de 1993.
Es más,
tras ser portada de la revista “Rolling
Stone”, aquel verano del 93 “Pocket Full of Kryptonite” ya era
triple Disco de Platino y el single "Two Princes", uno de los temas
nominados al Grammy. En definitiva, un imprescindible de
la década de los 90.
En su último albúm, If the River Was Whiskey (2013), Spin Doctors, vuelven a sus orígenes y el blues rebosa por todas las pistas del disco.
El 11 de Septiembre de 2014, podrás ver en concierto a los Spin Doctors estarán en la Sala Arena de Madrid donde tocarán las canciones favoritas de sus fans, y alguna canción de este último disco.
En su último albúm, If the River Was Whiskey (2013), Spin Doctors, vuelven a sus orígenes y el blues rebosa por todas las pistas del disco.

Un Spin Doctor es la persona
que se encarga, en política, de tratar de explicar los que un político
supuestamente trató realmente de decir.

Las canciones de Spin Doctors suenan a Blues, a Rock,
a Funk y a Pop. Una curiosa mezcla de estilos cuyo resultado es el exquisito
sonido de vuestra música, ¿cuáles son realmente vuestras influencias musicales?
Probablemente, la mezcla de
sonidos en el estilo de Spin Drs., es el resultado de todos los variados gustos
de los miembros de la banda. A todos nos gusta música diferente, pero todos
estamos de acuerdo en músicos como Led Zeppelin, y James Brown. En algún lugar
entre todas estas distintas influencias, los Spin Drs. crearon eses sonido.
The songs of Spin Doctors
sounds to Blues, to Rock, to Funk and obviously to Pop, a curious mix of styles
that results in the exquisite sound of your music, what really are your musical
influences?
Probably the mix of sounds in the Spin Drs.
style is a result of all of the different tastes of the members of the band. We
all like different music but we have all agreed on musicians like Led Zeppelin,
and James Brown. Somewhere among all of these different influences the
Spin Drs. sound was formed.

En realidad, estamos ahora,
20 años después, más cerca del sonido original de los Spin Drs. Empezamos como
una banda de blues y ahora estamos tocando blues de nuevo

is the difference between the music of Spin Doctors today and your music 20
years ago?
Truly, we are now, 20 years later, closer to the
original sound of the spin Drs. We began as a blues band and now we are playing
the blues again.
¿Por qué tituláis “If the river was whiskey” a vuestro
último disco?
“If The River Was Whiskey”
es una vieja serie de canciones de blues que se remontan a la antigüedad. Pensé
que sería un título genial para un álbum de blues. Después, cuando me estaba
preparando el desayuno temprano, temprano en la mañana y la letra de la canción
se me ocurrió.
Why
you titled "If the river was whiskey" to your lats disc?
If The River Was Whiskey is an old stock line
from a number of blues songs that date back to antiquity. I thought that would
be a cool title for a blues album. Later I was preparing breakfast for myself
early, early in the morning and the lyrics to the song came to me.
Esta no es la primera vez que actuáis en
concierto en España, ¿qué vais a ofrecer en vivo, y qué esperáis del público
español en vuestros espectáculos?
Hemos
tocado en España muchas veces. El público de España es de verdad, el mejor del
mundo. Sabemos que no nos vamos a decepcionar, si esperamos mucho entusiasmo
por parte del público español. Tocaremos muchas de las canciones favoritas de
nuestros fans y también algunas de nuestras canciones del nuevo disco.
This
is not your first time in concert around Spain, what are you going to offer in
your live concert, and what do you hope from the Spanish public in your shows?
We have played in Spain many times. The
audiences in Spain are truly the best in the world. We know that we will not be
disappointed when we expect very much enthusiasm from the Spanish public. We
will be playing many of our fan's favorite songs and also some of our songs
from the new record.
¿Hay alguna sorpresa o planes
alternativos para vuestra gira de 2014-2015?, ¿algo que podáis anticiparnos?
Tal
vez nos vistamos con trajes de gorila... Hemos considerado el salir con nuestro
cabello en llamas. Probablemente tengamos animales salvajes en el escenario.
Do you
have any surprise or any plans alternative to this tour for 2014-2015?. Can you
anticipate anything to us?
Perhaps we will dress in gorilla costumes… We
have considered setting our hair on fire. We will probably have some wild
animals on stage.
¿Pensáis que el mundo digital va a
acabar con el mundo de la música tal y como lo conocemos hoy en día? ¿Cuál es
el futuro del músico?
En realidad, soy un creado
de música, pero no un vaticinador de la música. Nunca he sabido qué esperar del
futuro de la música y no creo que nunca lo haga. Yo sólo voy a hacer la mejor
música que pueda durante el resto de mi vida y espero que la gente,
especialmente a los españoles, les guste.
Do you
think the digital world will end with music as we know it today? What do you
think is the future of music?
Truly, I am a maker of music not a predictor of
music. I have never known what to expect from the future of music and I do not
believe I ever will. I'm just going to make the best music that I can for the
rest of my life and hope that people, especially Spanish people, will like it.
¿Cuál es vuestro mejor recuerdo en el
mundo de la música?
Cuando
tenía 15 años, mi coro de la escuela secundaria tuvo la suerte de actuar en
Austria. Nuestro primer día, interpretamos
“Bruckner's Avi Maria” en la
Catedral de San Esteban. Nunca olvidaré el sonido del eco de la armonía al
regresar a mis oídos desde las cúpulas de la curva alta de la iglesia. Desde
entonces, nunca he oído hablar música de la misma manera.
What
is your best memory about music?
When I was 15 years old, my high school choir
was lucky enough to perform in Austria. Our first day and Austria we performed
Bruckner's Avi Maria in the Cathedral of St. Stephen's. I will never forget the
sound of the reverberation of harmony returning to my ears from the high curve
domes of the church. I have never heard music the same way since.
¿Qué piensas de la situación económica
actual en Europa y en el mundo en general?
Vivimos
en un mundo esclavizado por el valor ilusorio de este extraño concepto llamado
dinero. Claro que el dinero es una realidad, sin embargo ¿realmente se sabe lo
que la realidad es en realidad? De alguna manera, en este mundo roto y
defectuoso encontramos la felicidad, el amor y la belleza en la especia de la
falta de riqueza material. Aún así, sería bueno que todos tuvimos un poco más
de dinero en el bolsillo, ¿no?
What
do you think of the current economic situation in Europe, and in the world in
general?
We live in a world and slaved by the illusory
value of this strange concept called money. Of course, money is a reality,
however, who really knows what reality actually is? Somehow, in this faulty,
Broken world we find happiness, love, and beauty in spice of the lack of
material wealth. Still, it would be nice if we all had a bit more money in our
pockets, wouldn't it?

He estado leyendo el autor Inglés Charles Dickens. No sé cómo lo suyo se traduce en español pero sí creo que es uno de los grandes escritores en Inglés.

I have been reading the English author Charles Dickens. I don't know how his stuff translates into Spanish but I do believe he is one of the great writers of English.

Los Siete Samurais de Akira Kurosawa. Sona tres horas de duración, es en blanco y negro y con subtítulos, pero es mi película favorita.

Seven samurai. Akira Kurosawa. It's three hours long, black and white with subtitles but it's my favorite movie.

Pressure Drop de Toots and the Maytals. Mi canción favorita de todos los tiempos.
